Hidden Bar
MinimalistDeveloped by Dwarves Foundation. Focuses solely on lightweight icon hiding using a simple draggable divider.
- Mechanism: Divider-based collapse/expand with chevron trigger.
- Memory & CPU: Sub-15 MB RAM, virtually 0% CPU idle.
- Notch Handling: Hidden icons may slip behind the MacBook notch if too many are unhidden.
- Maintenance: Highly stable, infrequent releases.
brew install --cask hiddenbar
Ice

- Mechanism: Secondary "Ice Bar", search drawer, hover & scroll triggers.
- Notch Handling: Floating secondary bar below the notch prevents icon cutoff.
- Customization: Menu bar tinting, borders, custom item spacing, hotkeys.
- Maintenance: Rapid development with active macOS Sequoia support.
brew install --cask jordanbaird-ice
Choose Hidden Bar if:
- You only want to hide 3–8 background utility icons.
- You use an external monitor or older Mac without a notch.
- You prioritize zero battery impact and total simplicity.
Choose Ice if:
- You are migrating from Bartender following its telemetry concerns.
- You have a notched MacBook Pro / Air where menu bar real estate is tight.
- You want icon search, hover actions, and custom menu bar aesthetics.
How do I configure Always-Hidden items in Hidden Bar?
Hold ⌥ Option while dragging the divider to reveal the secondary divider. Any icons dragged to the far left of this divider will remain permanently hidden until configured otherwise.
Does Ice require Accessibility / Screen Recording permissions?
Yes. Like all advanced menu bar managers (including Bartender and Dozer), Ice requires Accessibility permissions to read menu bar window items and Screen Recording permission to render icon previews and handle styling.
